Finally have a set retirement date and it's almost exactly a month away. My 'shop' is at first going to be the last stall in our three car garage. I had the garage and garage doors insulated. Haven't got heat or air done for it yet but I'll see how much I need it. Had a window added above where I plan to put my workbench.

Here it is a while back while the house was still being built (it is finished and ours now):

Very nice. Dedicated space will be nice, and more available just by backing out a car.

Good for you man! Looking at the view outside your door however, I would be relegating the vehicles to the outside and make the entire thing a workshop!

I have a similar type garage (2 car plus 6 foot work space) and NO CARS are allowed inside. My wife wasn't happy at first given we have 6 months of real winter here (almost 2 feet of snow in December alone and -40 with the windchill) but she adapted. Sure it required having automatic starters put in all the vehicles but that was a small price to pay...

Dooooooo it! You know you want to!

Looks nice.

Just because it is called a garage doesn't mean you have to park cars inside.

I just stopped calling mine "the garage" and started calling it "the shop."

Sorry but I'm as much as a car guy as a wood guy so the car goes inside. Since I can't drive anymore that means it's soon to be only one car though in a three car garage. It's also extra deep so her car can fit in with my electric wheel chair on the back - think long bed crew cab pickup size depth.

Tony,

First of all congratulations on your retirement and I hope you get to use that shop in good health for many many years to come.

Congratulations! Retirement is a couple of year away for me. But I'm starting to plan, and a new shop is a big part of it!
