Italian Cypress

Has anyone tried turning Italian Cypress? Should I take the wood?

It's a tall skinny beautiful tree. I doubt the wood looks different from US cypress.

its a shame that tree is gone. A friend sent me a blank so I can make a pen from some of the remnants of the tree

It should be a good turning wood. The form just about guarantees many tight knots. This is a true cypress unlike bald cypress whose only relatives are all the various redwoods and sequoias. They are similar in hardness.

It smells really good when turning it. It cracks a lot. As mentioned it is very attractive becuse of the many knots. It does have some really nice grain variations. Can't go wrong, especially if it's free. I think the main problem is it's not very big, and can only get small bowls.
