Pie safe tin--What to do

Redoing an antique pie safe. The tin is rusted , I can get most of the rust off with fine steel wool... cant't get in the small slots. Also some tough spots . Any suggestion on how to get the rust off with out damage to the tin( want to maintain the old look). What type of sealer after the rust is removed. Mike Hedges

Try using Naval Jelly. You can find it in most hardware stores.

As well as the chemical route, glass bead blasting will remove rust scale without putting too much of a matte texture into the metal.
