I have decided that I need to invest in some decent bench chisels, just tired of my cheap generic plastic handled crap. Just being a hobbyist I can't justify L-N on my budget so I am doing a bunch of forum searches and reading on alternatives. I have read good and bad on just about every product out there. The name Narex keeps coming up when one considers the best "bang for the buck". Looked at the LV site and surprised to find the prices were so reasonable. I'm thinking thats where my money is going when I get my cash together.

Anyway, I went to the Narex website and they have a video on the production of their chisels that I hadn't seen posted before. Some of you may find it interesting.

Just got mine a few days ago. Haven't tuned them up yet, but like what I see and feel in the BE type purchased. Good luck with what ever you choose to do.

I had a hard time exiting that site. Maybe just my fault.

Nice to see what the tangs look like under those handles. I've oft thought of rehandling one of mine, so it's nice to see what there is to work with under there.

There was this video a while back from Workshop Heaven in the UK where the fellow talking about them talks about the quenching process Narex uses; something with molten salt, to speed the process. It's a bit of a "selling" video, but I found the discussion kind of interesting.

Thanks for posting the direct link. Nice to sort of get an "inside" view sometimes.

Just realized I didn't post the actual Workshop Heaven video I mentioned in my previous post:

Thanks for the link. I love watching things being fabricated. Always something to learn. I will certainly consider their products with better appreciation after seeing this.

I like how on their site they say they've been using traditional methods for years.

Somehow I don't think presses and automated grinders were too popular back in the day. :D

Just kidding. I realize they mean pounding out the steel and grinding bevels, not stamping out of a sheet of tool steel.

Cool videos, though. I like the videos are Auriou rasps being made, especially watching the dude hand-stitch them.
