I have a Shopmaster drill press and belt sander that need new motors. The drill press just hums, but the belt sander still works, only I can just about stop it with my badge hand. Everything else seems to be fairly solid. I'm just wondering, should I replace the motors or get something better like a Rikon when I can afford it.

1/3hp for the drill press, but have you determined the capacitor isn't bad?
Not sure what belt sander you have. You aren't giving us much to go on.
Pictures or model numbers would help.

It's a shopmaster too. I think they were like $99 at Lowes. Only thing I see on the sander is SM500.

How do I tell if it's the capacitor?

The Shopmaster belt sander is still a mystery. However, I think, with some guidance, I have found the problem. 280737 I don't think it's supposed to look like that and have a bulge on the side of the casing.
