I have seen this adjustable mouth shave online before, but I forget the name of it. I got it in a box of stuff, missing blade and cap. I have some 1/8" brass for the cap and can doubtless scrounge up some steel for the blade. I'd love it if someone here has one that they'd be willing to photograph the blade and cap of, with some measurements.

I may be misunderstanding the pictures, but this looks like the 54 design, and it just needs a blade:

thanks. that does make it easier :)
yours is a different model, but looks like the same basic idea. now I need to figure out what thickness to make the blade. bevel down or up? on yours, what is the mouth opening when the mouth is adjusted coplanar to the sole?

jim bode has one similar:

looks like bevel down.

The blade on my Stanley flavor of that shave is 1/16", and I couldn't fit a blade much of any thicker in there. Bevel down. As far as I know pretty well all the metal shaves with the blade on top of the body, like that, are bevel down.

I believe hock makes replacement blades for those, but you may have to call him to make sure you order the right one. I feel like they were 30 bucks or so; not dirt cheap, but for me enough to make it more attractive than making my own. Woodcraft and lots of other places have them, as well.

I've never handled one of these - how exactly does the adjustable mouth work on these? Does it adjust the angle in regards to the curves it can tackle? I feel like this is the shave Krenov said he liked in his first book?

i think its more about chip clearance than curvature. the bit in front of the blade swings away and up. the part behind the blade, which is most of the length of the sole stays the same.
