I'm starting to make friends with my lathe and a couple of my turning tools. Here are two recent bowls, one of walnut and the other of unknown species, but I think it may be ash. Both are finished with Watco clear oil and three coats of rattle clan semi-gloss lacquer. Comments most welcome.

I agree that it is probably Ash. Nice work on the bowls, especeially the Walnut.

Nice job on the bowls, that walnut has a lot going on in it. The mystery bowl I believe is elm, coarse grained like ash, but the color is more consistent with elm. If it smelled kind of funky when wet, that would confirm my guess.

Red Elm for sure.
