Lesser importance first: I don't usually mess with small projects but had a great time doing bottle stoppers and I remember seeing coffee tamper bases, but can't find any in the usual turning sources. Anybody know if they are available??

My gast vacuum pump went belly up and I bought a Robinaire pump which seems to work ok, but the oil mist is dreadful. I saw several ways to capture it (here on the forum, Dave suggested a water filter wrapped with a dust filter , and on utube, a man suggested a regular oil filter), but they all involve screwing the filters on to the pump. My Robinaire has a large, probably metric opening, and I can't figure out the thread size. I've got some tap-die sets but don't seem to have one that large, and I don't quite know how to figure out the size. Yes, I know that I'm a helpless dolt, but my grand kids love me.

Help on one or both questions would be very appreciated.

Happy New Year Everyone,

Hilel

Hilel, you could try the Robinaire website or call their customer service to see it they have the hole size/thread count. Here is some information: phone 507-455-7233.

I use a Robinaire and a HF vac pump for stabilizing. The setup is in the garage, not the shop. When I saw the oil cloud headed for the cars...well...it stopped. I picked up an oversized Fram Oil filter, you can use whomevers you like and placed it over the exhaust port. No more cloud. Don't worry about threading it, just find one with a hole that is larger than the port on you pump. Instant problem solved.

Hilel - Happy New Year!

Looks like there are a few manuals with specs available online - just depends on which model pump you are using.

Forgot to add some links about tamper sizes. Hope they help!

Hilel,

Here's one source for coffee tamper bases: http://www.coffeetamper.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=77

I googled coffee tamper base and a couple of different ones popped up.
