I made this bowl for a friend who gave me some walnut from his farm. It is 14 x 4 finished in home brew oil and ren wax. This is my first try with iphone pics and uploading directly from my phone with the forum runner ap. Comments always welcome.

I think your friend should be very happy with that bowl. Nice work.

I do like the bowl Steven :) too bad for the split, I hope you took care so that it will not get even bigger .

The knot is probably the cause of it, not much you can do about it :(.

Thanks Leo, the crack has been stabilized. The owners are a little cracked also, so all is well?.

Tell me, what would be done to "Stabilize" the crack?

Tim, the crack is filled with cyanoacrylate and sawdust.

Sometimes I stop drill the crack / limb-knot with a 1/16 " bit unless the pith or knot is larger ( use a larger drill bit ) and refill with a wood glue-fine saw dust paste from the wood being worked on ... I got tired of pealing my finger prints off trying to remove the CA glues ... the CA glue stains the surrounding wood and is a pain to sand down. the wood glue paste sands very nice and is less staining of the surrounding area due to the paste does not migrate as much.
