I'm pretty happy with my current lot of chisels, so I haven't been looking for any for a while. I happened to look at the ones currently offered on eBay, and it seems to me that prices of the old chisels are more reasonable than they were, say, 2-3 years ago. Is that my imagination, or have prices dropped a bit? If so, is there any particular reason?

Prices tend to fluctuate throughout the year.

I just lost on a bid for some chisels. There were only a few items in the lot that I wanted.

There was a spoon bit and another tapered bit in the lot the lister thought were chisels. There was also a 1/4" mortise chisel in the lot.

There is likely a lot less people bidding at this time of year. Wait until tax refunds start rolling in. Prices will likely go up when people have more cash on hand.

I have noticed the prices of some planes also seem to be good.

I forgot to keep looking and lost out on an 18th.C. James Cam 1/2" chisel with original handle. It went for $5.50. It was bright and never allowed to get rusty, too.
