While not fine woodworking, I enjoyed making this courtyard gate last week. I used 17 - 1x6 cedar fence pickets as the raw materials. Just for fun.

Jim,
That looks great! How did you do the top rail? Glue up multiple boards and then cut the radia?

Jim, you might not think that it's fine woodworking, but it certainly looks FINE to me. Nice job.

That's a great looking gate. How'd you finish it?

The gate is three layers thick, with the center layer extending in opposite directions from the face layers (to kinda create a bridle joint in the corners). I used Gorilla glue creating the layers which were fastened with 1-1/4 x 16 ga finishing nails while the glue cured. I did have to edge glue the upper sections to have wide enough material for the radii. Cut all parts with the table saw, except the top arches, which I cut with my trusty jig saw. I used a transparant oil stain for the color, trying to match the existing fence boards (which are kinda unusual, as all the fencing is made from 5/4 treated deck boards)
Thanks for all the kind comments, it was an enjoyable project.

Nice work. Please don't let my wife see that or you know what will be next for me.

I agree wholeheartedly. (Is this a case of the Von leading the Vaughn?) :p
I especially like the curved top, Jim.

You are way too Humble there, Jim! Looks like a very nice project that turned out very well.
I think it is nice to make simple things sometimes but add a bit of flare to it with an arch!
