I have the opportunity to bid on a two year old Laguna 12" model: MJO2200-0120 platinum jointer and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this jointer. I am not familiar with this brand at all. I would like to know
country of origin?
approximate price when new?
anything else that might help me determine if this is a machine that I should seriously consider.
Thank You,
JT

Lagunatools.com. Bet a phone call on Monday will get you that information. Might even be able to give you the name of an owner.

Every time I have seen a Platinum series Laguna tool, it's been made in Asia, either China or Taiwan. Here is a link to a previous discussion of Laguna's Platinum line in SMC:

Laguna makes it very difficult to find the country of origin on the Platinum series. Other woodworking sites on the Internet show everyone discovering they are Asian after purchase as well. Nothing wrong with it as long as you know what you're purchasing prior to purchase.

If it's already out of production I'd be worried about getting parts for it in the future.
