Hi all I am new to the forum. I hade been searching for a new hobby. I took shop class in vocational school and for got how much I like wood working. I planed a rough cut plank and I have no idea what species of hardwood it is can someone help

Welcome Danny, any chance you can post a clearer photo of the face grain and one of the fresh cut end grain? Is the wood heavy, light, hard soft, smell?

Looks like a sweet piece of bocote to me. Where did it come from?
Or maybe goncalo alves? Or shedua?

Cocobolo? but that would be a seriously valuable piece of wood if it were.
I also agree that Goncalo Alves is a possibility
So is Granadillo.

Whatever it is, it's probably expensive.
