This is my first paid piece. I usually build stuff for gifts and friends. This wasn't a high paid piece, more of a favor for a neighbor with a little money thrown in.

It's from reclaimed cedar and he wanted a somewhat rutic look without being "log Cabin" like. It's for his master bathroom and will have a vessel sink mounted on top.

The lumber came from an old utility pole at a farm. I was hesitant to work with it, thinking it might have creosote in it but come to find out it was never treated. Apparently the story is it was struck by lightning a few times so it was "decommissioned" for what it was needed as and it finally rotted at ground level and fell.

The burn mark on the front of the door was left to add character. I cut into it an started resawing and noticed a burn and thought it was from my saw. But it was about 1/2 of an inch into the piece and it was very brittle. I was told by another long time woodworker that he has seen this before an it's possible that's where the lightning struck. So the guy guy I built it for wanted me to incorporate a piece or 2 with the burn into it.

Finished with 2 coats of Zinsser Shellac sealer and 4 coats Minwax Brushing Lacquer Satin.

Neat piece. The burn mark will cause a lot of conversation.

Thanks guys, I was worried about the burn mark at first. The vanity was starting to look so good and I kept looking at it wanting to replace that piece but I think the door does a good job of making it not so out there and in your face.
