I got word back on my problem with a spiral cutter head for my 2030 jointer side only. They ask me to confirm if it is indeed a 2030 and not a 2030n. Makita tells me that the 2030 is a 12" and the 2030n is a 12-1/2". My 2030 says right on the tag that it is a 300 mm right on the tag. When I do the conversion from 12" to mm it works out to 304.8. when I do the 2030n at 12-1/2" it works out to 317.5 mm
if you own a 2030n can you check your tag and let me know how many inches or mm is on the tag

thank you
Al

Alan, how did it work out with your jointer? I've got the same machine and am wondering if a helical head is a viable option. Because the outfeed table isn't adjustable, I am apprehensive about what will happen as the carbide cutters start to dull. Have you been able to make it work? Did byrd give any good advice?

Al,
I too have the 2030 (over 30 years old and still runs strong). The tag mine on mine states that it is 304mm on the "Auto Feed" side (that is the planner). I have always bought 12" knives for it.

Like Mickey, i am interested in how your proposed switch to a spiral head turns out. I did some research a while ago and decided that I would be wise to change the bearings as well. Total cost appeared to be in the $900 range. Please keep us informed.
