I am thinking hard about upgrading the MiniMax FS35 Jointer Planer in the shop to a Shelix cutterhead. Had one on an old Jet 8" jointer planer and it worked much better than the straight knives. Has anyone performed this conversion or purchased a Shelix to use on a larger machine like the FS 35? Thanks.

Rich, I have talked to a number of owners who went this route and were happy with it. It is a lot more competitive to go the Byrd route than the Tersa route if you are buying just the head. I believe Byrd sells the whole kit, bearings and all.

I tried to call a few times around the holidays and ended up ordering this without any customer service person answering the phone at the end of December. In e-mail they indicated they were in stock and needed a couple of weeks. Does anyone know the lead time on the larger Shelix heads? I had to disassemble the jointer planer to give them the precise version to ship. Apparently the MM FS-35 came with different heads based on year of production.
