Some of you may remember a couple of months ago I had a score of pecan from a tree that was over 200 yrs old. Well, I've got a couple of items turned from it and I thought I would share some pictures with you. The first piece is is 5 1/4" w x 3" h. The second piece is a HF that I did. It is 7 1/4" w x 8 1/4" h. Both were turned green to finish, soaked in DNA, wrapped in newspaper and allowed to dry. Once dry, I dipped them in my "secret" http://www.woodturnersresource.com/yabb2files/Templates/Forum/woody/grin.gif oil blend and Bealle buffed them. C&C welcomed.
Thanks for looking,
Steve

Really like the rich brown tones. Between the mature age of the wood and the soak in oil the color is far better than the hickory I've turned. Thanks for sharing some fine looking wood.

Ditto what Bob said. Need to change my game plan for the next pecan I turn.

Those are real nice pieces Steve, the wood has a wonderful rich look to it, reminds me of some of the Applewood I've turned, especially the bowl, well done and thanks for sharing :)

Pecan in North Texas is as common as it gets, its 95% of what I turn. Those examples are really exceptional, great color and grain. Mot of what I turn is like the bowl coloring, mostly golden-cream with center darkening color. the open form is truly spectacular. The arborist I get my wood from would every so often get a tree with a base larger than the width of flatbed and it would sit on his lot waiting to be cut into firewood. Now I bring my chainsaw with me when I go to get some wood.

Nice work indeed Steve . I had some awhile back but was spalted so bad it became punky and only parts of it survived and sure did not look as good as yours !!!
