Always have to admire artisans who can see the potential in a rough chunk of wood. Years ago I worked at a startup sawmill and guys were sawing ends off logs ready to go into the mill. Had one large log that was almost all hollowed on the end. A woodworker who has watching asked if he could have the hollowed log end and they gave it to him. Must have been a year or more later he brought a table into the plant and it had the most incredible Birds Eye figure I have ever seen. (and we were cutting quite a bit of beautiful Birds Eye at the time) He told us the entire table had been made from that hollow log end he got. It was amazing -- what a talent to see the beauty hidden in a piece of wood.
