Very interesting, thanks for the post. I am surprised that the difference in noise while feeding wood to the planer and jointer is very little. Now if I were to test my Delta lunchbox planer, the level would jump a lot while cutting wood. To get more realistic numbers, the meter should be located at a normal ear location, not sitting on the machine, but still good information.
