Wet cypress

The only cypress beam I could find for 3" tapered legs was a wet 4x6. If I taper the wet lumber in order to dry faster am I at risk for splits that could ruin the legs?

If you taper it, at least it will be somewhat thinner, and thinner wood dries with less defect than thicker lumber. The good thing is that cypress is pretty forgiving and it dries relatively fast.

thanks for the input. my fear is an end split that could make a piece useless. I think I will try sealing the ends.
