Santa has elves. Many of us have our own holiday workshop helpers. Let's see pictures of your helpers, no matter how many legs they have or none at all. I have the red dog trained to get tools and items I drop in difficult to reach places. We trade; he gives me the dropped item, and he gets a treat. At times he brings out several items. The small dog kills all mice and rodents. The male black dog looks good and smiles. I do have him trained for other activities.

Are your helpers productive in the shop?

Here is my helper. He mostly serves as quality control. He likes to beat on the projects to make sure they are built sturdy enough.

Which dog is the small dog? ;-)

My only helper right now are nice and spiders, but they haven't contributed much as of yet. I hope my 1 yr old will spend time with me in the shop when she's older.

Erik - maybe it's because I'm viewing this thread on my phone, but it took me about three looks to realize that you posted your dog and not a dead mouse!

Rameses (Rameses Pheline Pharaoh) is more of a "Supervisor" than a "Helper". He read in the book how his kind (Abyssinians) were once worshiped as Gods by the ancient Egyptians, and he decided that he likes that...

I don't get much help in the shop at all.

Now in the summer when it is warm and the shop door is open I get a few helpers, here are 2 of them. The really don't help much but then they don't get in the way very much.

The dog on the left; she's a no nonsense kind of girl. Fourteen pounds of teeth with a bad attitude.

I have one little helper. Though he's not very productive in the shop, he is productive in other things at this point in his life ;)
He is most helpful in keeping me motivated.

Here's he's painting a birdhouse that he and I made.

This is my other shop helper. He peed on my HF dust collector once...

You sure it was the four-legged helper who peed on your dust collector?

I have a bench cat... it does not do much for me except to test the hardness of various finishing materials.

Dont know if it will work (picture). She use to love to burrow out depression in a pile of chips and snooze. I would often heap them up around her and she loved it. She has since moved to the shop couch in the office

Thanks guys.. She really use to love snoozing in the chips but at that time there was no couch in the office!! The instant that hit she rarely hangs out in then shop anymore other than for a brief pass through. She's a comfort creature for sure.

Again, she would just make a depression in the pile, i always heaped the chips around her like a blanket. She would sleep there for a while (or until the planer fired up) and then move on to some other soft spot.

I've often though of a shop cat to help with mice but never made the leap.

Here is one of my helpers. Down on hands and knees in the finish area cleaning up a mess that she made. About a quart of stain that spilled all over. This was five years ago and she is now married, so no more helping out.
