My Delta 18x36 was made in USA - big decal right on it. But they no longer are, so you'd have to find a used one like I did. It's become an indispensable machine in my shop.

My 26" Woodmaster is proudly made in America.

Woodmaster makes a 12" with a 4" drum. The drum does heat up and this can cause the sandpaper to stretch and overlap. This occurs on 6" drum sanders too. There were some others producing drum sanders with smaller diameter (under 8") drums up into the 1980s or 90s. I've seen them on the used market. Then there's the big ones but you probably don't have the electrical service or will to move one of the old behemoths. They can be got cheap though.

I was just having this conversation with the guy at Klingspor this weekend, I believe Woodmaster might be your only option for a more Hobbiest oriented machine. But Hobbiest is even a stretch of the definition.

I have been looking for a deal on a decent one for a while, and haven't seen a single Woodmaster come up.

As Glenn said Supermax appears to be the current new go-to choice, but it is Chiwanese...

Do you mean the attachment for their planer/molder, I see that in 12", 18" and 25" widths?

Smallest sander I could find was 26"...

Are you sure? The 2675 (26") is their smallest AFAIK.

Hmmm . . . . from their website:

"SuperMax Tools offers the only US manufactured drum and brush sanders with patented features, setting it apart in a tool category crowded with import machines."

It must depend on model than, they should update their website.

Notice the bottom RH corner of the 19-38 manual...

"Made in Taiwan to SuperMax specifications"

EDIT: Glenn, don't you have a 19-38? Where was yours made?

I think they manufacture the closed end drum sanders. The smaller ones are still a design bought originally by Jet and retained by them. Dave

I called Supermax and spoke with Hanna in sales. They do manufacture some models in the US and the 13" is one of them but it is a "BRUSH" sander and not a drum sander.

Thanks for all the input guys but it looks like there isn't an American made drum sander for the hobbiest.

Jim,

That is the same conclusion I have came to. I wonder if Super Max would be interested in running a group buy...

Drum sanders are simple machines. What is important is that the drum be round and concentric to the shaft. Even if a small model was made here, the drum would likely be sourced abroad to keep costs down. Find the model that works for you or look for a used Performax 25". Those are US made. Dave
