.... season 08 (1996) Chapter 4 - Long Table.

Near the end of the video he said he put 7 coats of ______ oil, prior to waxing and buffing the table.

What oil did he use?

Thanks in advance

Tung Oil! I like it, but it is not a very strong finish. Another alternative would be Waterlox, which is, from what I understand, tung oil that has been cooked to make it stronger.

Oh, thank you very much, Stephen!

I'm about to add couple of work benches to my home workshop. Currently I have used linseed oil which seems to have work nicely, even protected from stain and other finishes, not a 100%, but it is a working bench.

I wonder if this 7 layers of tung oil will bring a little more protection for a working surface then linseed oil.

Hi, I've used the Lee Valley Polymerised Tung oil which forms a more durable finish.

I mix it 50/50 with the LV Tung Oil Sealer, which gives a good consistency and a medium gloss.

It's been on my Morris chairs for about 12 years, still looking good..............Rod.
