I got a few of these pewter potpourri lids and I wanted to attempt a winged bowl. This is what I came up with, it still needs a finish. I'm not sure if I did it the proper way, if there is such a thing. I did have trouble with tear out on the underside that was difficult for me to clean up. However, the edges stayed together well and didn't break the few times I rapped my knuckles. :)

Looks pretty good Jim, I got my first too thin and it split ...

This is a very interesting variation to the common potpourri theme! Nice work!

The edge on the square portion looks very even. That is a key point on winged bowls IMHO. The line from top to bottom also looks good from the views you posted.
A bit top heavy for my taste, but otherwise a quite excellent job. I have done several square boxes recently and yes, they tend to blow up if you get too thin. DAHIK. My latest is a prototype for what I am calling a 'pagoda box' - 4 stacked boxes of decreasing size. If I can get back into the shop in a few weeks I will do a 'finished' version and post it.

Again - very good job, Jim!
