Hi all,

A year or two ago I picked up a Sargent 507 for 10-15$. After I got it home & cleaned it up I discovered that the rectangular ridges on the blade adjuster that slot into the groves on the back of the blade were broken.

I would like to fix this so I it can be used. It seems like it would come in handy on many occasions.

What is the best way to fix it?

Or should I start a search for a replacement? Any suggestions on that front would be welcomed too.

thanks,

Phil

I would try to re-file the groove.

When Im looking for a part I emai the dealers. I keep a list here http://lumberjocks.com/donwilwol/blog/24092 One more note, I don't have a #507 to compare, but a #217 or a #606 or 607 are probably the same piece.

Maybe file a notch in the ramp and insert a piece of square stock. If it does the job, then epoxy it into place.

Not sure you would want to change the profile of the ramp since that has an effect on the blade seating.

Another thought is to start tracking Sargent parts on ebay.

my thought is to file the old teeth off and braze on new ones.

I have just purchased a 507 and would like to remove the blade adjuster to better clean the plane. On my plane there is not enough space between the adjuster screw and the front adjuster support to remove the blade adjuster. Were you able to remove the adjuster?
