View Full Version : fir / larch for drawer sides?

I'm going to make a bunch of drawers over the Thanksgiving break for shop cabinets. I have some 2"x12" doug fir that has seasoned in my basement for a long time. I am thinking of re-sawing it, jointing and planning it to 1/2" or so in thickness. Just for practice I am going to dovetail all the drawers. The drawer faces could also be the same or I can get some poplar. Is there any downside to using clear doug fir for drawer construction?

Thanks in advance

Graham

Only downside is your boards have seasoned at the 2" thickness, and once you re-saw them in half they may be inclined to warp. You may still have enough to joint and plane for your thickness.....your going to have to try it to know for sure;)

good luck,
