I have used and abused my 2 1/4 HP bosch 1617 router and it has developed a vibration problem.

As an example, I own a Keller dovetail jig. I was in a hurry so I thought that I might actually use a dovetail jig rather than cutting them all by hand. It vibrated enough that I could not use the jig because the bit would not fit between the fingers. That was with a 1/4" router bit. I also have the vibration with a 1/2" router bit, the point is that it is a different bit and a different collet.

I might consider this an opportunity to obtain a larger router for my router table, but, I own a nice Jessem router lift and it is all built in to the side table on my table saw... I believe that I can also use a PC 890 or a Dewalt 618, both of which are also 2 1/4 HP.

Any thoughts on how one would repair the Bosch (do it yourself and/or send it in for repair, wonder what they charge for that). Or, should I just punt and buy the PC or the Dewalt?

I can get another Bosch for about $160, the PC 892 (is that the same as the 890) about $180, adn the Dewalt 618 for $150.

Any thoughts?

I would say you need to replace the bearings, you can get them from Ereplacement Parts for under $10 for both of them.
