I'm charged with helping an elderly lady with selling her husbands tools.....and boy he had a lot of stuff. The steel planes and chisels and other items I'm comfortable pricing for her. There are however about 75 to 100 wooden planes. Most appear to be in decent condition and are quite nicely made. Question is how do I price them for her? Some have #'s and owners names/initials stamped on them....others appear to have a maker stamps...any help would be appreciated :-)Thank youRay

Maybe an auction would be the way to go?

I would assume that this is a set? I would price them as a unit or as a molding set.

Get a book on wooden planes and look up the makers names. Chelor planes could easily go for a thousand dollars or more.

Unless they're all from the same maker, I buy at around $10 - $25.
I only buy if the iron and wedge are intact.

The more complicated moving fillister planes may be worth slightly more.

I couldn't tell you who the prized makers of these planes were, but the modern versions are hideously expensive.
That's an indication of how long it takes to make one well.

Try this question over on the Neander forum as well. Some photos might help too.
