I was watching a bit of the new Woodwright's Shop episodes posted online - I guess a new season went up recently.

There's an episode here:

With a pretty neat saw vise. It's actually a pretty neat approach. I might try my hand at it sometime.

The interesting bit with the vise starts about the 2:54 mark. The first couple minutes being the intro, and the usual silly Roy story at the intro (and another vise of the more common wooden type) and the rest of the show being the usual Roy out-of-breath speeding through trying to show how to build as much as he can cram into a 20 minute show.

cool. i remember seeing ones online like the first one he used but had no bolts. the jaws were loose and tapped down until snug. i would think that would rive the would but it seems to be a traditional in the field method.
