Hi All,

I know it says a 40w laser won't cut Aluminum, but I was looking over the AlumaMark page and saw it is available in .005
That's awful thin, has anyone ever attempted to cut it with a laser? It would be alot cheaper then trying to get them to die cut it.
Just curious....

No, you can't even cut aluminum foil.

Sure you can... I happily cut some with my 60W shortly after I got it, you just can't cut it bare.

You have 60, my 45 watt won't.

I would luv to be able to cut it, so strange that it can't, .005 is actually thinner than most aluminum foil, but then again even if it did I imagine the speeds would not be cost efficient. Oh well time to get die cut pricing from them :(

They have some pre-cut label type products available with no die charge.

Alumamark is not typically a cost efficient material. Could you use some other material and process?

Cut. I did it early on so I did not write down any settings, but I have no doubt it was at 100P and something less than 100S. I do remember it cutting faster than expected, though (given my original naivete on cutting metal with a CO2 laser), and the cut quality was decent enough. I do not remember if edge burning was an issue. Some really fine work was possible. I'll look, but I doubt I kept any of the pieces considering they were just cheap aluminum foil.
