Hey, all,

I recently bought a set of the new Stanley Sweetheart 750 socket chisels and want to secure the handles.

In researching how to do that, I found an article in FWW where the guy suggests using epoxy to glue the handles on.

Epoxy's great stuff – I use it all the time – but that seems kind of extreme to me since the only way I know to remove it would be by heating it until it softened (and I wouldn't want to risk drawing the temper out of the steel) or boring out the socket again with a tapered bore.

What have you folks done to secure your socket chisels to their handles?

TIA,

Jacob.

LN recommends hair spray for a removable but stronger than bare wood bond.

Plus one for hair spray.

You might want to pot one of the long handles on a chisel.

Fun Tak poster adhesive
Lacquer
Shellac
Future floor wax (its a weak acrylic)
Spraymount adhesive (of Post-It note fame)
"Tacky" white glues, such as this (http://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/Item/A198/page/1) from Woodland Scenics.
Threadlock, just not the permanent type.

Also a + for hairspray. Being able to change the handles is one of the perks of using socket chisels. If you epoxy the handle you lose that advantage. If you cannot change the handle the Japanese type tang will certainly last longer.

Thanks, fellas. I guess I'll give hair spray a shot.
