Hey guys!

I have a project for a client who wants a table and bench built from Doug Fir and other construction type lumber for a 'rustic' 'worn' look. I will not be doing the finishing. However, he has asked for how to achieve this certain look. I honestly have no clue.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Finish it as normal and then loan it out to a middle school cafeteria for a month. :D

using construction lumber comes with significant challenges, in particular since it typically has close to 19% moisture content and is prone to shrinking and warping when used for interior projects where wood generally heads to around 8% water. Achieving rustic involves using hand planes set a bit too heavy in order to get some tear out. A few dings also help. But don't get too carried away a little goes a long way.
