I don't normally spend much time over here on the flat side of the forum, more of a spinny kind of guy. I started this project back in Aug. just finally finished it about a week ago due to work and family commitments. I first got the idea from my local spa dealer when getting supplies for my hot tub. They were selling a 6 sided version that was a prefab kit imported from Finland on sale for $13k. I figured I could build my own 8 sided version cheaper. Built from knotty pine and spruce it is about 124 sq. ft. With the exception of glass for the windows and the rolled sheet metal I built it myself, total material including those items was under $5k and took around 150 manhours to complete. I started by designing, based on pictures from the net, in Sketchup. Based on the initial test with family and friends I suspect it will see plenty of use over the long cold winters we have here in the Edmonton area. Thanks for looking.

Looks great Mike. Just what one needs here for our climate.

Thats a real beauty Mike. I would love to build one for my place.

Looks like you built it on skids so it can be moved easily.

Whimsical buildings are such a great luxury . The door echoing the footprint is inspired. I'm sure those children love their new PLAYhouse. Great place to read (or stage) Hansel and Gretal.

That looks sooocozy. Nicely done.
Did you need a permit for that? I'm thinking of the "firepit" inside.
Cheers,

Tim

Thanks for all the kind words. This little house will see lots of use. Keith, it is not on skids per say but does have a 4x4 base and should be able to be moved easily. Tim, yes it did require a permit were I live.

I'm thinking that with a few holes in the floor you could have the most popular Icehouse on the lake, especially if you keep the grill running :)

Did you ever hear the expression, "Screen door in a submarine"?:D

Wow. Very nice. How you did a custom build like this in 150 man hours humbles me. Are there by any chance more minutes in a Canadian hour than a U.S. hour? :)
