Very beautiful indeed.

Now you just have to align the split nuts and my ocd inner demon will be happy.

Nah, not really. I'll make a few extra for my Dutch woodworking friends. But I'm not going to give up my job in the hospital anytime soon!

George, folding the spine is quite a job indeed! First bending over to 90 degrees on a brake. Not further, because that somehow resulted in a crooked, funny shape. Then into a big machinist vise to squash it as flat as possible. I tried to anneal, but my propane burner isn't strong enough. So the last bit was with a big hammer on an anvil. That of course resulted in quite a few dents, but those were no problem on a 60 grit sanding belt. But before grinding I had to straighten first, which is a nice job, hammering a bit here or there. Oh, and before I hammer it flat, I insert a sacrificial sawplate into the back to prevent flattening it too much. That's about it.

Very nice, Kees! I'm a huge fan of folded backs over slotted ones, although I suppose one could file the back to get the look, I suppose what I dis-like about slotted backs is the weird squared off look folks like Adria use.

Hi Kees

Is this the same dovetail saw you posted earlier (perhaps elsewhere), or a new saw altogether? Either way, it is a beautiful design, and beautifuly executed. Well done.

I am curious how you folded the brass back?

Regards from Perth

Derek

Thanks everyone for the compliments. Much apreciated.

Derek, this is a new one. Allthough it looks a lot like the previous example, I think it is much improved. The blade is now 9" instead of 8", and the handle just looks miles better. Funny how small improvements make such a difference.

I blogged a lot about making this saw in the last two months. I think that is the most extensive publication about how to make a folded back in a garage, ever published!
It starts in October. http://seekelot.blogspot.nl/2013_10_01_archive.html
