The shape of these allows them to nest in tha hand very comfortably, with easy access to the tightening screw, which is knurled for extra purchase. The banjos are in brass so as not to marr the stainless rod.
The bodies have been soaking in thinned linseed oil for 10 hours under vacuum. Soaking in linseed is an age old technique and should provide many years of protection whilst allowing the user to maintain the finish.
These ones are in Wenge, and I'm looking into other timbers at the moment.
Half of the wheels have been hardened, the rest will be done in the morning. Then the lot will be annealed in the oven with the roast tomorrow (Don't tell my wife  )

The silver steel wheels are countersunk both sides, so the bevel can be set on the waste side.
I am looking into a version which also features a pin, held in place using the existing screw.
These will be shipped with the necessary tool to remove the wheel fixing screw.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Adam

The concept is terrific, the workmanship looks first class, and I like the promise of the ergonomics very much .... but the design is not quite there - sorry. The depth of the fence looks awfully shallow. As there are no dimensions I estimate that there is about 1/4", perhaps 1/2" below the cutter. I would aim for at least 1 1/2".

Regards from Perth

Subtle stealth advertising at its best :)

So back in March you said you were almost ready to go live with the making gauges but I see they are not available. What happened?

Did you end up making your own wheels or did you just use Veritas ones?

Lovely work btw.

Thanks for the comments.
Derek. You're right regarding the fence. The depth is deliberately shallow. Having it this way allows one to mark thin components on the bench. The length of the gauge prevents it from tipping, which Is what I'm guessing you're concerned about.
Hilton. Was it way back in March? Wow. Time flies.
To answer your question, I was nearly there with them then, but not quite at a point where I'd be happy to sell them. I went back to the drawing board and reworked some of the finer details. They'll be going live in the shop as soon as I get some better photos.
The wheels are indeed made by me.

Thanks for looking.
Adam.
