Americana Rollerballs - Snapping the Coupler In Place - Question

I have been trying to make some Americana Rollerballs and am having difficulty with snapping the coupler in place. I have removed whatever amount of material from the top portion as directed and made sure that the brass tube is free of any residue. I am having a heck of a time trying to snap the coupler in place - almost to the point where the brass tube is being affected.

Is there any secret to getting this part in place?

Which coupler Joe...there are two. They do fit very tight
