I turned a round box and wish to hinge the round lid, what is the best way to mount a hinge for this box ?

A round hinge? I think you are going to wind up with some physics problems. Can you post pics?

Without a pic of your project and size, it is difficult to say, but this (http://www.woodcraft.com/product/2003267/783/miniature-barrel-hinge.aspx) might work -

Take at look at this thread http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?176335-Saltbox for some ideas. I've seen a few of these and they work great. There are also a couple of other threads here that I can't find at the moment on how to do this. This aproach does require some mass at the bottom of the round box in to prevent tipping when fully opened.

+1 for Dale's point. If the lid has a snug mortised fit, clearance is the problem. Perhaps a strong chamfer on the side opposite a hinge of the sort John shows would overcome this, but I doubt it, and then the aesthetics would be compromised. If the lid is a flush fit, rather than mortised, a simple blind pivot pin would be pretty neat.

How big is the box? If one roto hinge will do it, these work well

The lid will pivot on the hinge, not lift, so the lid needs to be overlay.

I was assuming that he was asking about the kind of hinge that is two loops with a strait hinge on the back. This makes for a box that opens like a clam.

Thanks guys for the replies, I think I am going to try Grant's roto hinge and see what happens. I never thought of hinging it that way.
