Nicely done. I like the shape and finish. Some might want a small rounding at the base to give the appearance of lift. It also looks like there are several small worm holes that will be a distraction for some but I tend to leave natural also. Where did you find Avocado in Connecticut? I bought some back from HI years back that was lighter in color and fairly soft wood.

Thanks, I got the wood from a friend in California. I probably should have rounded the base a bit for the reason you suggested. Most of the Avocado I've got from California was dark like this, but somewhat soft as you describe the HI variety.

You did a good job on that piece. The simple form works well with the beautiful wood. I am not usually a fan of tucked under ("rounded"?) bases and like this one as is. Some like the base large and stable, some like it small and delicate, some like it rounded; it would be a less interesting world if we all agreed!

Thanks everyone. I wish I could get more Avocado, but where it grows, it is considered firewood and thus rarely available outside the region. I got this chunk of wood from a friend in California.

Bush Oil is a popular finishing product in the Northeast that is a witches brew of stuff based on boiled linseed oil and urethane. It gets its name from William Bush who invented it.
