It has been awhile since I posted a pen here. I found some shop time and was able to complete this Zen pen. The blank which I made is a segmented blank made up of olive wood and black acrylic and finished with 6 coats of med CA. The acrylic is the inlay material in this case. The kit features a magnetic cap instead of the traditional screw cap. I am still testing this because I am not sure I like it totally enough to carry in my line.

Anyway thanks for looking and any questions or comments are always welcomed.

Nice John, never tried a Zen, looks like a classy pen.

Edit: Re-read your post again. It may make a good one to carry in a line-up of pens but I am not sure I would carry a Zen on my person. It doesn't appear as comfortable to hold as others. This of coarse has nothing to do with the segmented blank, that would look great on lots of different pens.

Hello James.

Thanks for the kind words. I find the pen easy to hold because you fingers are above the short nib. I do not know anyone who holds a pen or pencil that close to the nib but i guess it is possible. The thing I do not like is the cap. It moves when you bump it. It does not fall off because of the magnets but if putting in your pocket the cap can move and tilt. As far as a plus the long length of the barrel lends itself to a large canvas to show off those special blanks without having a centerband to break up the look. I have a few of these and may just make them up and try selling them and let the customer decide. I am not a true fan because of the cap. Thanks for looking.

John thanks for the info. I try to carry good pen and appreciate an honest report on a pens function. At the price they sell for a customer should get top of the line pen. The wood sure is nice, I like.

That is incredibly beautiful. Really nice job. Like the details. You're a master.
