We have installed our new Byrd Tool Shelix true helical head in our planer and is it ever sweet :-) Quiet...how about being able to talk over the planer while running lumber thru it! Finish quality far better than I ever imagined to boot. This head not only has the staggered individual indexable inserts, but the cutters are actually angled for a true shear cut. The only one that I have ever seen available.
I know that most of you would never consider doing this, but our figured hardwoods make this a must. I can not say enough good things about Byrd Tool and the quality of their Shelix heads.
