I have acquired 4-5 (depending on what partyou count) transtional jack planes of various makers. All need to be rebuilt. The blades and frames are a mixture of 27's and 26's ie 2" and 2 1/8" wide but all of the frogs are 2"" as are the lever caps. Does anyone have an intact 27 withh original parts? Are the frog and lever cap 2" or 2 1/8"?
Thanks for any help

I have a 27 that I believe to have orignal parts. the frog is 2 plus about a 16th. I forgot to measure the iron this morning, but I can't say that I'd trust any iron by itself in any transitional, plane - I'd want a survey. 27s have such low value that you never know what is original on them..

Another sample of one #27 believed to be original Type 12, 1905-1908:

Frog: 2.113"
Lever cap: 2.060"
Iron: 2.087"

Yes, I know 3-digit accuracy is overkill but couldn't help myself. I'm a recovering engineer. At least you know that all are greater than 2".

Strange that the frogs are as far off as ours are. I know for sure mines not close to 2 1/8th on a combination square rule, it's almost dead on a 16th. Maybe that part of the process wasn't too precise.

IIRC, my iron is short of the frog, too, which makes me think it was robbed from any of the several quadrillion planes that stanley made with a 2" iron.

It seems that I have a mixture of planes mostly 26's. The stanley where all the parts are consistent the blade is 2'' and the frog 1 15/16. One is national. one is union these seem to be 26's one has a frame like the union,a2 1/8' blade by stanley and a tote bolt of a different thread than the rest which I guess is somebodies aftermarket assembly. There is only one intact tote in the bunch and all have different means of attaching the tote from 2 screwsinto the body on the national to variousthreaded rods all with different threads. I think I'll rebuild a couple ,perhaps as ajack plane and a scrub plane. Thanks for the feedback
