I am cutting the back legs out of 12/4 material (the legs are 2 1/4" square), and the top half of the leg leans back at an angle. On the first leg, the grain ran straight for the upper part, but on the bottom the grain ran out from front to back. Sure enough the leg had a separation at one grain line, and I cannot use it. I could spread the crack and glue it up, but now I do not trust this leg. My thoughts now are to do a lamination on these legs, by putting a 1 1/2" piece in the center and 3/8" on either side (worried about cosmetics here). Anyone have any thoughts on this?
