This spring I made a wedding goblet for a grand-niece with an offset turned stem. Her husband saw it an exclaimed that it looked like something out of Harry Potter (He's a big fan). That got me to thinking, so after a three months absence from the shop (Florida heat, health issues, and several trips to NC for funerals) I decided I needed some practice so after turning a simple bowl I picked up a piece of 3x3 poplar that was very clean and straight grained and turned a goblet. This is my first attempt at turning and burning poplar, a very soft hardwood.

The stem IS NOT offset turned, but rather shaped on an oscillating spindle sander. Height is about 8".

C & C welcome of course.

That definitely has the WOW look to it. I would never had guessed you used the sander on it. Nice work.

+1 on the "WOW"!

Is the Hog's Head logo laser engraved? If not, how did you do it?

Cheers,

Frank in Palm Bay, up the road from you!

Hand drawn and burned. Poplar turns out to be a good wood for burning.

You are naturally talented! I like the design. Very intricate but you made it gracefully! I like the wood used and the details. Remarkable work!
