Hi folks,

it was Jim Becker who asked about spring shop improvement projects some while back and although I don't have a specific project to show I'd like to share a couple of pics of my never-ending attempt to improve my shop.

About one year ago, my shop looked like this.
<img src="http://home.eduhi.at/user/holzwerkstatt/index.htm/pictures.htm/W-Tour1/Raum1.jpg">

Then, last summer, I painted it freshly and built and installed this cabinet.
<img src="http://home.eduhi.at/user/holzwerkstatt/index.htm/pictures.htm/Werkstattreorganisation/Spanplattenschrank/Schrank_gesamt.JPG">

I could fit it pretty nicely for my standards, maybe something to be proud of :) Ok, the pic is ugly :rolleyes: .

In order to get things organized, I built 4 stackable plywood boxes that primarily contain electric stuff (cords, plugs, …).

Some of you might remember the pics of the shelves which offer space for some of my Systainers, clamps and other stuff.
<img src="http://home.eduhi.at/user/holzwerkstatt/index.htm/pictures.htm/Werkstattreorganisation/MDF-Regal/Regal2.jpg">

A few weeks ago I added another storage for large clamps.
<img src="http://home.eduhi.at/user/holzwerkstatt/index.htm/pictures.htm/Werkstattreorganisation/Zwingenhalterung/Zwingenhalterung.JPG">

On the last weekends I installed a bunch of lights and this OSB wall that will provide even more room for even more tools ;)

An extremley simple but usefull addition to my vac is the suction hose holder I completed recently.

And if some of you might think that my shop looks way to clean and organized, here’s a different impression.

Very nice Christian, it looks like a very well organized shop, what are the dimensions? Do you have a TS or do you do all your cutting with the Festool?

Christian,

You make me feel like a slob :)

I like a neat well organized shop also. It makes for safe and convenient working conditions. I mounted 2 sets of 3 door cabinets just about like yours except mine came from a borg clearance corner. They sure are nice to keep stuff organized and out of sight.

Looks like you have a very nice shop and I like the lighting too.

BTW.... My ancestry takes me back to Austria (Slovienian) at least according to my wife's hobby of tracing ancestors. :eek:

Christian, you have made good use of limited space. Thanks for all the pictures.

Christian, you have really done a great job on your re-organization. I find myself doing the same thing from time to time. The tight spaces mean that everything "finds" it's place :) Even if that may be on the floor!

I need to clean my shop soon. I just need to figure out how to keep my son from messing it up again. :confused:

There's a framing square in there somewhere I just know it but I'll be darned if I can find it.

Looks like you've been keeping quite busy. Nice improvements to your shop, looks clean and comfortable. I bet that lighting made a big difference!

Good morning,

thanks for your kind words.
Although the shop already looks rather organized I’m planning further improvements: A cutting table for my GCSS, a tool cabinet, …

@ Bruce: The shop is pretty small about 550 x 200 cm (18 x 6.5 ft) so when I have to cut sheets or other large stuff I do that in front of the house or in the garage.
As I don’t own a table saw (or any other stationary machinery) I mostly use my Festool saw and a friend of mine who has a well-equipped shop is kind enough to help me out when I’d need a bandsaw or other machinery I don’t have.

Regards,

Christian

Hi Christian, Just catching up on the SMC posts. Very nice well organized shop. Do you want to fly over from Austria and organize mine. I could use some help.
take care,
John

Could you show some more details on the hose holder for the vac? Shop rehab looks great.

Hi Jay,

I can't offer any detailed pics our measurements right now because I'm not at home. I didn't use any plans either but I just did a quick drawing. It's pretty basic and simple because I used Paint but I hope that it helps.

http://home.eduhi.at/user/holzwerkstatt/index.htm/pictures.htm/Schlauchhalter/Skizze.JPG

The connection - holder to vac- only works when there's a Systainer on the vac. That's no problem for me because I constantly have my Compact Cleaning set on the CT 22. So when there's a Systainer on the vac there remains a "slot" between the vac's "body" and the Systainer. A piece of wood sanded/planed to the right thickness perfectly fits this slot.

Hope this helps,

Christian

Thanks for the drawing! I echo Jim's comments, build something other than shop furniture!

It never fails to impress me that someone from Austria can post some pictures on a web site and get comments from someone in Iowa, Texas, or Canada - and that no matter how much we are different we are all the same - we ooddle over the Festools, marvel at some small detail, ask for help duplicating something and, low and behold, have the same problems and outlook (my wife swears that the primary function of my tools is to make something else for the shop.) I even have an old dresser in my shop very much like Christian's - and it holds things very well - of course, it is also a future project when it is restored, but that is another story.

Perhaps we should get gov'ment folks to emulate our example.

By the way - it would be nice if everyone would include their location even if it is just the state - but town and state would be best - I enjoy knowing where folks are from, as do many others, and there is no invasion of privacy issue here (and I am a privacy nut - well, maybe just a nut, you be the judge.)

Very nice job. Lamello? Must be nice! :D

Thanks again for your replies.

I already built some non-shop stuff (a doll cradle, some more doll furniture, basic jobs around the house…) but I don’t have any pics and I don’t think that this stuff would be worth showing any pics here.

@ Ray: I completely agree and although I don’t want to get into a political discussion here I think that even the “gov'ment folks”, as you called them, could discuss the way we do as long as the subject isn’t politics.

@ Byron: Yep, it’s a nice Lamello Classic C2 biscuit joiner. It took me more than 6 months of thinking until I finally bought it. :rolleyes:

Christian

..............or Festool vs EZ Guide, or Craftsman vs any other tool, or..............well, I'll let it go at that, but I still think we get along better (unless, of course, you disagree with me, in which case you are wrong);)

As I don't have any other options ;) I agree with you. Honestly, those examples show, that even woodworking-related discussions can cause some kind of "touchy" atmosphere. So the chance, that politicians get along without "troubles" is even a lot smaller.

Thanks, Mark. I really appreciate your kind words.
