Ian MacDonald!

Your the first Winner of our "FreeStuff" drawing, your name has been picked at random and your prize is McFeely's "Do It Yourself Dozen" valued at $59.95. Your prize contains over 1200 square drive screws, a magnetic bit holder and an assortmanet of hex bits. (part#1200-FSL-A, from the McFeely's catalog).

The management at McFeely's have been very kind to offer the very first prize in the SawMill Creek "FreeStuff" program. We drew Ian's name out of an electronic hat from all of the registered members here at SawMill Creek. McFeely's was the very first company to respond to our request to support this program.

Ian, send me a private message and include your postal address, I will have McFeely's ship your prize directly to your home.

A Personal Note:
I have purchased thousands and thousands of square drive screws from McFeely's. Their products and service are excellent, one of the most reliable company's I have ever dealt with.

The SawMill Creek "FreeStuff" program is designed to promote good will between woodworkers, manufacturers and direct sales outlets. We would like to thank all of the companies that we contacted for their time and consideration. More prizes will be announced soon.

John,

Here is the message I posted in the Support Forum a few days ago.
----------------------
Free Stuff

SawMill Creek has only one sponsor and we are not interested in obtaining advertisers. We do however plan to be contacting every major woodworking manufacturer, distributor and retail sales company we can to let them know that we exist and ask for donations of tools and equipment that we can give away to our members.

The idea is to draw a name out of an electronic hat so to speak. Aaron has a program that will scan the member list here and select a name randonly. As we find organizations who will participate we will post the prize and conduct the drawing. We will give the company who donates the prize fair exposure by posting a new thread containing all of the details of their donation, a link to their web site and hopefully a picture of the winner with their new toy.

I have not made any contacts as yet but I believe this could be one of the best promotional methods any company could wish for and I hope it will be successful. If this works out it will certainly be lots of fun and obvoiusly rewarding for the winners. No money will change hands so this is not a commercial venture, prizes will be shipped directly to the winner and it will simply promote good will between woodworkers and manufacturers. We will need lots of members to attract the big guns and large prizes but we will get there in time.

If any of you have friends in the business that you think would be interested in helping us kick this program off please contact them and ask them to get in touch with us, I can only make so many phone calls a day by myself, lots of hands will make the task easier.

Companies interested in our givaway program can send a letter signed by their representative and describe the donation in detail (make and model number or catalog number) to the following address;

Attn: SawMill Creek
Hampton Roads Online
1213-H George Washinton Memorial Highway
Yorktown Virginia, 23693

-----------------------

In the future we will not put the winners name in the main title of the thread, so if you see the words "FreeStuff Winner" click to see if you won the prize. There may also be multiple winners, you never know :)

I promised everyone at the Pond that I would make every effort to make our board the best it can be, we can't replace Badger Pond so we will just have to work hard and try a few new things that we think will make "The Creek" a very special place.

We have lots of ideas, next up we will try to put something together to coordinate bulk buys of tools and equipment from the manufacturers. This won't be as frequent as the "FreeStuff" program but it will give everyone the opportunity to save some bucks. Maybe we"ll call it our "Saw Bucks" program :) As our membership grows so will our clout and bargaining power.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

All -

Ditto Keith's assesment of McFeely's. I use their screws also. Absolutely top notch! Can't be beat.

If you haven't tried any yet, you should.

Congratulations Ian,
Ted

I'll second or third or whatever the comments on McFeeley's screws. They have replaced almost :) all others in my shop, and the service has been excellent and fast.

Ken, spare the Sawmill! They are the ones giving stuff away. We gotta find a way to rig this thing so the others aren't registered. :D

I've got 30" of snow out my back door - I've cleared my drive 3 1/2 times & finally had a plow truck finish it. Chopped 2" of ice off my walkway - litterly can not see one of the cars in my drive - got calouses on my hands & an ice pack on my back as I type this.

As long as it doesn't turn into a hurricane I'll be happy ;)

Come to think of it last time I was down there was a pretty bad tropical storm & the water was just coming over the bridge in clear lake. Oh well

Thanks for the update

Thanks so much Keith and gang. :)

I read about you guys trying to get these promotional type things going never thinking I would actually be the recipient of one.

Keep up the great work! (I can believe you guys are doing all this pro bono.)

Good luck to the next winner.

I thought I answered your Post eariler but I must have done something wrong. I'm still learning how to paddle my way in this creek. Oh Well ! Bealeton VA. is located along route 17 and route 28 and it's in between Culpepper and Warrenton VA. It's about 70 miles from Washington D.C. It's also about 25 miles West of Fredricksburg VA.

Thanks Ron. I thought it might be up that way. Keith and I used to live in Spotsylvania (4 years) when we worked at North Anna Power Station.

From the Pond to the Creek!

Great transition. Hats off to the folks here. This site is very well done! Looked at several options since the "announcement", and found a new home here, along with the good folks at WoodCentral.

Prizes Too? - Way cool!

Way to go Ian!

Keith Outten

John / All

I have left a voice message on the phone of a big wheel at Delta and have asked him to return my call so that I could discuss our "Free Stuff" program with him. Will Delta call us back? Maybe when we get three thousand members maybe not.

I hope that the manufacturers will get behind this program, I already know the small companys will, several have pledged prizes already. When we start the bulk buy (SawBucks) program we will tend to patronise the companys who support us as a group. Money talks!

I like this better it doesn't cost as much & is a left tilt saw, so I could afford a 8" jointer too.

It is kept on the top to make people aware (especially new members) that the program exists. I am sure it will stay there until the next winner.

Ian did receive his square drive assortment from McFeelys, I had placed a sticky on this message until Ian had the time to acknowledge receipt of his "Free Stuff" but Ian has been too busy, I have removed the sticky so the message will not continue to be at the top.

Thanks again to the nice people of McFeely's for their contribution to our "Free Stuff" program. We are looking for a second company now who may be interested in contributing a free prize to one of our members at SawMill Creek.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in posting again to this thread. I've been recovering from a small crisis here at home related to a toilet, my 5 year old son and many, many gallons of water  Did I mention that all this happened on the floor right above my garage/workshop. You get the picture...

Anywho...

I want to thank Keith et al as well as McFeely's for the wonderful gift. I've purchased a few items from McFeely's in the past and have been very impressed with their fastener products and service.

Here's a picture of the nice gift I received:
http://www.bismac.com/photos/ww/p3300053.jpg

It's McFeely's sample set of 12 different size square drive screws (100 each) along with these nice labeled stacking storage containers. They even threw in a couple of screwdrivers.

Thanks again,

-- Ian
