I know that is a long list.

I would like to drill 3/4" to 1" D holes into the trunks of some trees I've cut down. The wood is green, and I'd be going into the end-grain.

Any tips for a drill bit for this? Something available locally in a decent-sized (Milwaukee) city would be nice.

Phil, I would use a Milwaukee self-feed bit. They are very aggressive drilling yet leave smooth bores.

I use a spade bit for green wood. Cheap and fast. If they break, they are cheap. You can sharpen them easily too. You can get them from *marts everywhere. Did you need a nice clean hole? These won't do if you need "nice" holes.
