Hi All, I'm new here; first post. Question: Can anyone give me an idea how short a piece I could safely sand with a Performax 22-44? I'm thinking about buying one off Craig's List and would like this info before I make an offer. Thanks very much. Tim

According to a manual I found online (http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000050382.pdf) the minimum length is 2¼".

i have had one for many years - i would not do a 2.25" piece without a board behind - so i think you can do about any size as long as you have a "follower" board.

Thanks very much for the info--that's quite short enough for my use!

Jerry, I'm glad to hear from someone that's had the machine for a while! Are you totally happy with it?? Assuming that it's operated within it's design envelope (not forced or abused), how would you rate the machine? I've been doing hobby woodwork for years, using smoothers, scrapers and very little sand paper but now I'm looking at some production work on small items to help the retirement cash flow. I think this machine might be just the ticket! Anxious to hear your views on this unit! Regards, Tim

you could always run the short piece through on a "platen" with some type of hold down. i've run some short pieces thru and used double side stick tape to keep it on the platen.

hi tim - i have been satisfied with the machine - but do not consider it a "production machine" - small incremental finishing - really cannot take off a big chunk. it usually gets me ready for r/o and hand finish sanding.
