Where do I measure the RECI tube current to make sure it is not above 26ma?

Not sure where I probe.

Question - why do people run their tubes at lower settings? Does it make the beam thinner? Why not run at the highest power that you can without exceeding 500 mm/sec?

you need to get a milliamp meter (not an amp meter like I did)

0-50 milliamps. Something on Ebay would work (I have some here but my shipping is probably more than straight from china). I went digital which is nice but needs a power supply of it's own.

As for lower settings, that would be if the power to too high for the job or material and the max speed. Try engraving at full power and you'll probably see the problem. Cutting paper and other light goods same issues, especially as you can't cut nicely at 500mm/s, it's only for engraving.

Sorry, answer to this part is on the low voltage side, ie the white wire off the laser out side.

Everyday digital multimeters typically auto range down to the 40ma range, but I tried mine, and it kept on resetting.
