I just got an electric smoker. Can i use turned shavings in there? Also do they need to be dry or can i use green wood? Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but i thought someone here has probably thought of this before...

If it's fruit wood, it's ok that it's a little green. Curly's will dry out fast so I would use them.
I have a ceramic smoker. I use small chunks of wood for smoking in it.
Enjoy.

I have a Brinkman electric smoker. My experiences is that shavings would not last long enough, at least in mine, to be effective. I find 4/4 or larger scraps provide a better continuous smoke. Soaking in water makes the wood last/smoke longer. You could try Wrapping some soaked shavings in foil and they would probably last a while. Best woods for smoking are oak, hickory, cherry, alder, mesquite, apple, and probably some more I'm forgetting...
