My daughter called me a couple of months ago with a request to make a bowl for a lady who had become her friend. The lady had been her graduate advisor while my daughter was earning her masters in education degree. As it turned out I had worked with her advisor's husband at one time a few years ago. My daughter's friend was very distraught because they live in a historic house with an ancient maple tree. The tree had been damaged in the past and arborists had been able to save the tree until this year, when most of the tree came down. My daughter's friend had lamented the loss of the tree on facebook, and my daughter read about it and wanted to try to salvage a remembrance from the tree. The bowl is 10" wide and 8" tall. This is the picture the new owner of the bowl posted on facebook.

Beautiful, and great texture. How did you do that?

Accent was done with Sorby micro texturing tool. To get this pattern, I used to tool twice, with the wheel at two different angles.
